Identity and Institutional Image

Communication as a strategic aim in the university allows for solid construction of links with the environment, supported by the development of processes that contribute to institutional recognition in tune with its purposes and promotes trustworthiness and credibility by the community towards the institution.

For Universidad Surcolombiana, communication must tend towards internal and external articulation and visibility of their academic, investigative, administrative process and social projection to build a higher level of knowledge, position, sense of belonging and identity.

As established in the Communication Policy approved by the Board of Directors through Agreement 030 of 2013: “the image, as an intangible asset of Universidad Surcolombiana that creates the perceptions of the people around, must be managed and protected by members of the institution, ensuring the appropriate and controlled use of the symbols.”

Anthem

The university superior council through Agreement #043 of 2013 issued on October 18, 2013, institutionalized as the Universidad Surcolombiana anthem, the song “Juntos haremos la historia” written by Jesús María Vidal Areas, arranged by Juan Pablo Rodriguez Mendoza from the BA Arts program of the faculty of education.

“Juntos haremos la historia” is the original title of the musical piece comprised of four verses; it connects the university spirit with the conflicts of the region. The song became part of the alma mater, being sung before any assembly, march, demonstration as well as other events taking place within the institution.

Identity and Institutional Image Manual

In the framework of strengthening its institutional purposes, Universidad Surcolombiana acknowledges as a necessity and priority the construction, protection, appropriation, and localization of a united, coherent, organized, and remarkable image with its main purpose. In this sense, the gathering of criteria, the clearness of meaning, the direction of identity, and the improvement of the institutional image and its accurate projection allows the University to continue the reinforcement of its culture. It also helps in the strengthening of an identity based on values, principles, and shared meanings. Additionally, it coherently projects the answer to the communicative needs in its environment.

In order to structure the necessary guidelines to accurately manage its identity and image, the University presents this manual, which belongs to a guidance of the correct use of visual and identity elements of the institution. This will support the protection of its public image and preserve the acknowledgement of Universidad Surcolombiana at a regional, national, and international level.

Likewise, it will allow, based on clear guidelines, the strengthening and appropriation of the attributes of the image along with the elements that compound the institutional identity; reflecting coherence in the use and projection of the image, avoiding its fragmented and undue use.

Agreement 046 of 2016, in which it is adopted the “Manual de Identidad e Imagen de la Universidad Surcolombiana” (Identity and Image of Universidad Surcolombiana Manual).
